Specialist Avionic Technical Author
We are currently recruiting for a Specialist Avionic Technical Author at our Brough site. You will be working as a specialist within a team of authors to provide an editing service for Technical Publications and ensure that data is produced in accordance with contractual requirements and in-line with the agreed programme and budgets.
As a Specialist Avionic Technical Author your main responsibilities will include:
Providing Section Leader Line Management support to guide other Technical Authors.
Undertaking the role of subject matter expert within a team, ensuring that technical documentation reflects the complexities of the system(s), and to provide advice and guidance to others.
To edit the technical data originated by other members of the team to ensure that prevailing standards and conventions are adopted across the team.
Ensuring that best practice processes and procedures are adopted / developed and that amendments to technical documentation are consistent across all work outputs.
To lead a team of authors to produce timely and consistent technical documentation for aircraft system(s). To provide training and development (including carrying out PDRs and performance feedback) to authors to ensure the product is delivered in a safe, effective and efficient way.
To assess change requests and modifications to understand the effect on the publication suite across all assigned projects.
Ensuring data is produced in accordance with applicable processes, procedures and work instructions.
Close liaison with all aspects of engineering through the interaction with engineering and design authority personnel and/or the interrogation of contributory engineering databases.
Developing relationships with Partner Organisations, End Users, Suppliers, Project Teams/Organisations to ensure the continuous improvement of service delivery.
As a Specialist Avionic Technical Author your skills, qualifications and experience will ideally include:
Broad knowledge of aircraft systems and maintenance principles.
Experience working in a customer and/or end user operating environment.
Must be IT literate, with good working knowledge of:
- Standard MS Office packages (i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- SGML publishing principles
- Abortext Epic or Framemaker+SGML
- Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional
- Mercury 4 client
- MS Project
Experience of the following is required:
- Design, drawing system and logistics databases
- Understanding of engineering life-cycle processes
- Publication Specifications, AvP70, Milspec and S1000D
- Ability to interpret engineering data
- Use of ground based and test equipment
- Supply chain and equipment vendors
What we're looking for in you
This role requires a broad based knowledge of Technical Publications processes, procedures and toolsets, including a proven capability to manage own workload and perform editing Quality Assurance activities. In addition, you must have proven, broad based knowledge/experience of the relevant platform (including appropriate trade qualifications).
In addition requires a high degree of self-motivation and good inter-personal skills. You may be required to lead a small team of technical authors; therefore experience managing people and work priorities is desirable.
