Inspector ATS - Engineering
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is the UK’s specialist aviation regulator. Our remit covers four broad areas of aviation: safety, economic regulation of major airports, consumer protection and airspace.
Reporting to, and advising, the ATS Regional Manager, you will be responsible for the regulatory oversight of ATM engineering systems and equipment at ATSUs throughout your region.
You will plan and conduct a programme of audits and inspections of ATSUs, using your technical expertise to ensure that high safety standards are maintained and encourage improved regulatory and business practices. You will be ensuring the completion of all regulatory activity leading to the issue of approvals in accordance with the provisions of the Air Navigation Order.
The role also has a broader influence as you will participate in a range of discussions on the development of policy and procedures aimed at achieving effective regulation in a manner that is proportionate to risk. In doing so, you will be helping to shape the future of civil aviation throughout the UK and Europe.
Able to appreciate and meet the needs of service providers in a timely and proactive fashion, you should have a confident, approachable manner and a flair for communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Educated to degree level in an appropriate engineering discipline (or with equivalent ATM engineering experience), you will have a detailed understanding of the safety regulatory requirements associated with the planning, provision and operation of ATM systems and services in the UK. As such, it is essential you have a good knowledge of CAP670 and relevant sections of CAP393, as well as a sound understanding of the principles of Safety and Quality Management.
You will also have practical experience of the provision of ATM services or systems in accordance with a Safety Management System, and will have applied your training in risk management techniques within an ATM environment.
