Deputy Chief Engineer (Manned Aircraft)

Boscombe Down, Salisbury and Wiltshire
Competitive salary and benefits

QinetiQ is the UK’s largest research and technology organisation, working with major government and commercial customers around the globe to develop cutting edge solutions for the latest challenges facing defence, aerospace and many other sectors. Our Air Division embraces the full lifecycle of product development, from the technical evaluation of new platforms through to the support of existing in service fleets, at mission and aircraft level.

We now seek a deputy for the Chief Air Engineer to take responsibility for our Manned Aviation Activities. Helping to ensure the delivery of timely, high quality, cost-effective solutions, you will be managing the associated technical standards and policies, keeping us in line with changing regulatory requirements, and both formulating and proposing policy from an engineering perspective.

It will be a key part of your role to provide technical support and advice to all programmes employing Manned Aircraft. You will also approve documentation and Trials Risk Assessments on behalf of the Chief Air Engineer, as well as conducting a range of other approving activities, extensions and procedures. We will expect you to be able to deputise at senior-level internal and external meetings, to chair review meetings, and to provide a wide range of technical and professional advice, liaison and relationship building.

Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in aeronautical engineering or another relevant discipline, you will be either a Chartered Engineer or committed to achieving this within six months (although Incorporated Engineers with suitable experience may be considered). You will certainly have sound and up-to-date knowledge and experience of Manned Aircraft regulatory, design, airworthiness and maintenance policy requirements, across fixed and rotary wing, with a view to meeting the principles of Regulatory Instruction MAA/RI/05/11. Previous exposure to Civil aircraft regulatory standards would also be advantageous.

Capable of leading, co-ordinating and team working in a matrix environment, you are a strong influencer and communicator with the knack of proactively managing customer expectations. Your analytical approach should be matched by the flexibility, self-motivation and pragmatism to respond positively to change and other challenges.
