Unrivalled scale. Incredible scope. Rewarding complexity. At the Ministry of Defence, Programme and Project Managers provide world class support to a world class defence force. Joining us, you’ll be instrumental to defending Britain’s interests at home and overseas, and you’ll help us strengthen international peace and stability.

Your role
You’ll be part of Defence Equipment & Support – the specialist function responsible for equipping and supporting the UK’s Armed Forces now and in the future. Here, you’ll lead and support projects at the cutting edge of technological and scientific developments.

You’ll play a vital part in complex acquisition projects working closely with industrial partners and international counterparts. You’ll be central to the success of the most challenging initiatives in the procurement and support of military capability.

DE&S is looking to fill a variety of Programme and Project Manager roles across the organisation, with opportunities in a variety of teams, for example Combat Air; Air Support; Helicopters; Ships; Weapons; Submarines; Land Equipment; Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR); Logistic Commodities and Services. Specifically, this will involve leading or supporting projects covering the full lifecycle: procurement strategies, business cases and investment appraisals; project schedules; risk registers and plans; leading on technical aspects of tenders; controlling finances; briefing, reporting and stakeholder management.

Your background
To join us at C2 grade, you’ll need to demonstrate an understanding of Project Management and ideally have some experience of managing and delivering successful projects in a complex environment. DE&S has recently achieved corporate accreditation from the Association for Project managers (APM) based on its approach to project Management development. Whilst a Project management qualification is desirable such as APMP/Prince 2 or equivalent, we will support you to attain this if you do not hold it already. Naturally, we’ll expect you to have strong problem solving and resource management skills, with an adaptable approach.

The ability to deliver high quality and timely outcomes, achieving value for money for the taxpayer is crucial.

Your rewards
We offer an open, flexible and supportive working environment plus a good pension and benefits package. From in-house courses and sponsorship to acquire formal qualifications, through to the sheer diversity of your role and projects, you’ll enjoy excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.
