The National Police Air Service delivers aviation support to police forces across England and Wales. Operating from a number of bases across the country, NPAS is operated by West Yorkshire Police from its headquarters in Wakefield.
As one of the largest police aviation providers in the world we take a pride in ensuring that we achieve the highest standards of safety. We are seeking to recruit a Head of Aviation Safety based at Wakefield to challenge our activities and embed a safety culture that is second to none.
As the Head of Aviation Safety you will manage the NPAS Safety Management System to ensure it meets all regulatory requirements for both Aviation and Health and Safety, including the co-ordination of day to day safety systems and continual improvement of safety management.
It is essential that candidates possess a degree or professional equivalent qualification (level 6 or above) in aviation safety, Safety Management or general Risk Management. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate a proven track record in safety management in an aviation environment, including exposure to, and management of, relevant legislation as well as having a background in Safety Management Systems, Health and Safety and Environmental management.
In order to be considered for the role you must have experience of managing and meeting obligations under diverse safety legislation spanning multiple areas of NPAS business and have experience of working within a ‘matrix’ environment; that is of team members who are both direct employees and employed by other organisation, ensuring service delivery to rigid standards.
Applicants must have substantial knowledge and understanding of performance/project management, have the ability to use a range of relevant software solutions, including the current safety management system and all relevant Microsoft packages, and have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to prepare and present specialist reports and training to a range of NPAS Stakeholders.
Successful candidates must hold a full driving licence and be able and willing to travel throughout England and Wales for business purposes.
