Enhancing Aviation Safety through Better Regulation
Representing the Safety and Airspace Regulation Group, the CAA is seeking an Airspace Regulator (Technical) to join the team at this exciting time of the UK airspace change programme.
The basic structure of the UK’s airspace was developed over forty years ago. Since then there have been huge changes. Throughout Europe there is a move to simplify and harmonise the way airspace and air traffic control is applied through the Single European Sky project. In the UK and Ireland we’re meeting those opportunities through the Future Airspace Strategy, which sets out a plan to modernise airspace by 2020.
This role will provide regulatory and policy oversight of UK airspace structures and management and provide advice, guidance and direction on airspace issues inside and outside controlled airspace. Additionally, developing and implementing strategies and policies for the safe and efficient operation of UK airspace in accordance with Ministerial Directions to the CAA and appropriate UK and international legislation. Further, but not exclusively, the successful candidate will be involved, when needed, in the provision of advice and guidance to sponsors of Unusual Aerial Activity and coordinate such activities to the wider aviation community.
The ideal candidate
- The successful candidate will possess an excellent understanding of UK airspace and air traffic operations. A comprehensive knowledge of the CAA’s regulatory role, strategic plan and responsibilities is also essential
- Experience as an air traffic controller, professional aircrew or the ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of technical expertise is essential
- The successful candidate will be flexible, committed, customer-focused and able to work under pressure. We are looking for a team player with a willingness to embrace new working methods, tackle a job and get it done
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully, diplomatically and authoritatively with people at all levels, together with strong verbal and written communication skills.
The CAA is the UK's specialist aviation regulator. Through its skills and expertise it is recognised as a world leader in its field. Its activities are diverse and ensure that the aviation industry continues to meet the highest operational safety standards and is able to operate in a modern and efficient airspace.
