The Role

Reporting to and advising the Principal Inspector, you will take on responsibility for the regulatory oversight of the provision of air traffic services at Air Traffic Service Units within your region, working closely with the Air Navigation Service Provision industry.

You will plan and conduct a programme of audits and inspections, as well as undertaking the assessment of competence of Air Traffic Controllers and Flight Information Service Officers.

There will be opportunities for you to participate in varied and diverse Air Traffic Management related tasks, including the delivery of presentations and training material, sometimes outside the UK.

The role also has a broader influence, as you will participate in a range of discussions on the development of policy and procedures aimed at achieving effective regulation in a manner that is proportionate to risk.  In doing so, you will be helping to shape the future of civil aviation throughout the UK.

The Ideal Candidate

Able to appreciate and meet the needs of service providers, you should have a confident, approachable manner and a flair for briefing both technical and non-technical audiences.

You will have a detailed understanding of the safety regulatory requirements associated with the planning, provision and operation of Air Traffic Management systems and services in the UK.  As such, it is essential you have a good knowledge of EC Requirements and pertinent CAPs as well as a sound understanding of the principles of Safety and Quality Management.

Holding a civil ATCO licence with APS and ADI ratings, the successful candidate will also hold an Assessor endorsement and will have practical experience of the use of a Safety Management System in the provision of Air Traffic Services. You will ideally have undertaken training in risk management techniques, and will have exercised this training within an ATM environment. In the case of the Southern Region post, experience at one of the major LTMA Aerodrome ATSUs is desirable.
