Chief Executive

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is a commercial semi-state company which is responsible for the management of Irish controlled airspace, the safety regulation of the civil aviation industry in Ireland and the oversight of civil aviation security in Ireland. The IAA carries out a range of operational and regulatory functions and services on behalf of the State relating to the safety and technical aspects of civil aviation. The Authority ensures that Irish civil aviation operates to international and European standards in accordance with Irish, ICAO and European legal obligations.

The IAA operates independently without financial support from the Irish Exchequer. The Authority generates revenues from charges and fees raised from airline customers for the provision of Air Traffic Management services and from regulated entities with respect to aviation safety and security regulation services.

The Board of the IAA wishes to recruit a new Chief Executive to lead the company through the next phase of its development, which includes the building of a new control tower and the oversight of noise regulation at Dublin Airport.

The Chief Executive will be a dynamic and proven leader with senior executive experience in the aviation sector or a relevant regulated industry who will exude integrity, authority and will naturally inspire credibility and confidence in all stakeholders. The appointee will be accountable to the Board for the ongoing development of the Authority and will lead an expert team in the provision of safe & efficient air navigation services, aviation safety and security regulatory services.

The successful candidate will also have the capacity to give strategic direction and focus to the organisation, establishing clear objectives, harnessing and leveraging the expertise that exists across the organisation. An ability to promote the IAA’s interests and pursue business opportunities in the national and international fields is also required.

This is a key appointment and requires well-honed influencing skills coupled with a track record of success at senior management level within the public or private sector. Candidates must be exceptional communicators with the ability to contribute and enthuse at the highest level, possessing a strong commercial sense and customer focus and the ability to engage and influence all stakeholders.

The IAA works in close partnership with many other international organisations and the Chief Executive will be a key contributor at a range of international fora. Energy, impact and a collaborative leadership style will therefore be important.

Candidates are invited to email, in complete confidence, a curriculum vitae together with a cover letter, explaining how they meet the requirements of the role, quoting reference IAA by clicking on the 'Apply' button or to: John Glenny at MERC Partners, 11/12 Richview Office Park, Clonskeagh, Dublin D14 N5X2. Closing date for receipt of applications is 25th August 2017
