Experimental Test Pilot
Airbus Helicopters UK Ltd

Location: Oxford Airport reporting to the Chief Test Pilot

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Conduct experimental flight tests (Category 1) as required by the Design Office
  • Conduct post maintenance flight test and ferries between factory, operator and customers
  • Assist the Chief Test Pilot in planning and day to day flight operations scheduling in conjunction with business demands
  • Assist the Chief Test Pilot with the administration and safe operations of flights under EASA and under MAA regulation within the companies CFAOS clearance.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the Chief Test Pilot

  • Carry out experimental flight tests in accordance with Flight Test Plans as required by Airbus Helicopters Design Office
  • Liaise with the Design Office and assist with report preparation
  • Liaise with the EASA Flight Test department
  • Carry out day to day maintenance air tests and ground runs
  • Ferry helicopters between customers and maintenance bases.

Under own initiative

  • Conduct maintenance flight tests
  • Liaise with (Airbus) MRO to plan maintenance flight tests

KPIs

  • Conduct safe test and maintenance flights in accordance with AHUK Flight Operations Manual and CFAOS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Capable of holding numerous helicopter type ratings, both single engine and twin
  • Hold a Class One EASA Medical
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of CS27/29 & Part Ops
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of MAA 2000 series regulations and CFAOS
  • A good aviation background with an understanding of Airbus Helicopters aircraft systems and engineering
  • Good communicator capable of representing AH UK both to commercial and military customers
  • Capable of leading a small but diverse flight test team and running a test programme
  • Computer literate in MS Office desktop applications

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SPECIAL TRAINING
ESSENTIAL

  • Graduate of a full course at a recognised test pilot school with a EASA Flight Test Rating
  • Hold an current EASA CPL(H) or equivalent
  • Hold a twin I/R
  • Capable of holding Instructor/Examiner ratings

EXPERIENCE

  • Have a minimum of 2000 hours twin engine flying time; varied flying experience
  • Airbus Types an advantage
  • Ex military trained pilot an advantage
  • Instructor TRI/TRE Ratings an advantage
  • NVG qualification an advantage 
  • CVE an advantage  

PERSONALITY REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Proven leadership experience capable of leading a small by diverse team
  • Team player with ability to work effectively under pressure and without on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Good communication skills; written and verbal 
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally at all levels
  • A reliable individual capable of working without close supervision in remote locations

DESIRABLE

  • Sense of humour, ability to offer an alternative solution and a general optimism

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A DBS and MOD Security Clearance
  • UK driving License
  • Travel within UK and europe
  • Right to reside in the UK
